We recently supported AVIXA and schoms at the National School & College Leavers Festival, joining colleagues from across the audio-visual industry to help introduce students to the breadth of AV careers available in the UK.
The event welcomed thousands of young people exploring future pathways, and for many, it was their first time discovering that the professional AV industry exists. The booth provided an engaging space where students could learn about the technology that powers live events, education environments, and corporate installations, helping raise awareness of AV as a career option.
To support the initiative, Training Manager Matt Harding offered students a hands-on look at a live rack build, the technical backbone of professional AV systems. The rack generated strong interest, with students eager to understand how audio, video, and control technologies integrate to create seamless user experiences.
Matt and the rest of the volunteers were on hand throughout the day to discuss the wide range of AV industry opportunities, from technical operations and system design to installation, engineering, and content production. These conversations helped students gain a clearer understanding of the skills involved and the different entry points into the sector.
The Festival highlighted the importance of collaboration across the UK AV sector. With multiple organisations supporting the booth, the presence created a meaningful platform to showcase the diversity and potential of careers in the audio-visual industry.
A big thank you to Catherine Sharman, Ben Barnard, the AVIXA & schoms teams for leading such an engaging initiative, and to everyone from across the industry who contributed their time and expertise. It was a privilege to help raise awareness of the AV industry and encourage new talent into a sector many students had never encountered before.
